Texas State Chapter will be reserving a booth space at the DFW Diwali Mela.
Last year we raised $580 for our cause and hope to do better.

A Wall Street Journal story looks at the reasons behind the extraordinary drop in H-1B applications. Here's the money quote: Companies that use H-1B visas argue the market, rather than Congress, should dictate the number of visas issued. Hi,
I am filling out an LCA online for an employer who is hiring someone as an H-1B transfer. I am using iCERT and had a question as I go through the process:
Part E. Attorney of Agent Information
16. Law firm/Business FEIN:
This sections asks me for my law firm tax ID number. However, I am a solo practitioner so do not have a TIN or EIN - I use my SSN for taxes etc.
If I leave this part blank, or put N/A will this make them deny my LCA? I called their help desk, but am waiting (who knows how long) for them to respond.

I am married to a US Citizen and we filed my I-130 petition, which was approved in April 2007. However, the I-797 also notice said that I was not eligible to adjust status from within the US based on evidence presented in the I-130 and that we should consult a local USCIS office to determine what this evidence was. When we consulted an officer at the local USCIS field office, we were advised to proceed with the filing as the language about ineligibility to adjust status in the US was 'standard'.
We have since filed my I485, application for EAD, and AP. Unfortunately I didn't know about priority dates and their impact on our filing. if my priority is not current does this mean that the 485 will be rejected?

LCA has to be for the location where you work -- Los-Angeles CA
Taxes:
You have to pay taxes where you live -- Los-Angeles CA
If your employer deducts taxes for NJ, there is nothing illegal about it.
You have to correct that from your side.
1. File a tax return for NJ and claim back all the taxes your employer deducted for NJ.
2. File a tax return for Los-Angeles, CA and pay all the taxes due for CA state.

Currently my 485 is pending over 1.5 years with I-140 approval (2007). I was laid-off. I have valid EAD card. Am I eligible to transfer to a TARP company for a similar position but in different state? Is there any specific policy or limitation for this work status? The company's HR couldn't make a decision. What should I do? Thank you very much for your kind and generous help.

I moved apartments and in the process unfortunately lost all my passport and visa documents. I do not have the original I-797 with me anymore. I have only a photocopy.
My I-797 was extended till may 2012 though my visa stamp on my passport expires this year. I was supposed to travel to India to get the visa stamped in May.
Can I still travel without an original I-797? What is the procedure? Can somebody please help?!!

George W. Bush has been the most accommodating of presidents. He has rarely used his veto pen to kill legislation. Until now.
Last week, Bush vetoed a bill that would have expanded federally funded embryonic stem-cell research. He said scientific advances allow researchers to pursue lifesaving work without destroying human embryos. It was his third veto ever.
But there will soon be more. Lots more, and almost every one of them will have an impact on the markets and business growth.
Bush has attacked the opposition party for "excessive spending" and has vowed to veto many of Congress's 12 appropriations bills, which are on track to exceed his wishes by $23 billion in the next fiscal year.
In response, some Democrats have said they can play that game, too. A faction thinks the last thing they should do is let pass almost any legislative initiative Bush and his party can claim credit for, including the immigration and energy bills Congress is working on.
These confrontations are shortsighted no matter who's to blame. A budget impasse would depress markets and weaken the dollar. Failure of the immigration bill would threaten businesses that hire illegal immigrants with increased sanctions or compel them to hire fewer people, either of which would lead to higher prices. And energy shortages could easily become chronic unless more is done to reduce our reliance on high-price oil.
Shallow political finger-pointing is not an adequate response.

A report from the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund shows that hate crimes targeting Hispanics rose 40% from 2003 to 2007. The report can be found here.
